The whole of India will be rejoicing the 74th Army Day on 15th January 2022. On this special day each year, Indian soldiers of the army are honored, who selflessly served the country with dedication and lots of scarification. In every Army headquarters, you will witness this day to be celebrated as currently the pandemic iOS going on this special day will be celebrated within strict protocols.

Why Indian Army Day is celebrated on 15th January?

Indian Army was officially recognized or established on 1st April 1895 but in 1949, once India got independence the Indian Army got its first chief ever and that was a historic day for the Indian Army, General Sir Francis Butcher handed over the baton to Lieutenant General KM Cariappa.

Lt Gen Cariappa led the Indian Army In 1947, in the war against Pakistan on the western border, On 14th January 1986, he became the second-highest-ranking officer in the Indian Army when he got the title of Field Marshal of India. The first officer to accept this highest ranking was Sam Manekshaw in 1973.

How is the special Army Day celebrated?

No doubt the special Army Day is a huge celebration of India’s military real-life heroes. On this special day, the Army Day parade is held at the Parade Ground, Delhi Cantonment every year.

Is Indian Army Day the same as the US Veterans Day?

Overall if you will compare, then it’s definitely yes! On 11th November, the US usually celebrates Veterans Day and pays tribute to the soldiers who served for the nation. This is also similar to Indian Army Day where the Indian army pays tributes to soldiers who dedicatedly served India for a long time.

When it comes to numbers, China has the largest army in the world. India stands number two when it comes to the number of Army persons. Indian Army has around 1.4 million military personnel who are actively serving the country dedicatedly. Hopefully this time Indian Army will showcase their advanced weapons and technology-based drones along with modern lightweight Helicopters and the HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited) manufactured lightweight Combat Helicopter.

We may see the advanced BLT T-72 Bharat Rakshak tank in this upcoming Army Day celebration parade ceremony. Rather than the Army may show the 155 MM Soltum Gun and BrahMos Missiles.

Every year on the Indian Army Day, in the main event of the parade, at Cariappa Parade Ground at Delhi Cantt, the Manoj Mukund Naravane the Army Chief General, takes the salute and on this inspirational Bravery Day, unit credentials and Sena Medals are also awarded to deserving Army personals.

More about Field Marshal KM Cariappa on the special Army Day 2022

Field Marshal KM Cariappa was called ‘Kipper’, by his colleagues, and during World War I (1914-18) he had received military training.

In 1919, Cariappa was in the first group of Indians to be nominated and he was sent to Indore for Army training.

At the finish of his training, he was commissioned in the Carnatic Infantry. And after a long outstanding career, he became the first chief of the Indian Army on 15th January 1949.

Cariappa was the first-ever Indian officer who was deliberated the ‘Order of the Chief Commander of the Legion of Merit by Harr Truman the US President. After retiring from the Indian Army IN 1956, He went to Australia and New Zealand to serve as High Commissioner.
